07/15/2010 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Mountain Peak Charter School gladly celebrates formal recognition from the Western
Association of Schools and Colleges (“WASC”) as we have recently earned candidacy
status in our very first year of operation.
WASC is one of six regional accrediting associations in the United States. They are
responsible to provide assurances that accredited institutions are evaluated extensively
and conform to general expectations of performance and quality. Because accreditation
requires continual self-evaluation, frequent reports, and periodic external review, the
public can be assured that the educational quality of programs and services offered by the
institution are current, reflect high standards of quality, and are offered with integrity.
Typically, WASC allows schools who have been granted candidacy status up to three
years to complete a thorough self study process, and then request full accreditation.
Given the confidence we have in our employees and with the steadfast support of our
families, Mountain Peak Charter School intends to achieve full WASC accreditation in
two more years.
The visiting committee from WASC pointed out several key areas of strength at
Mountain Peak Charter School:
Therefore, Mountain Peak Charter School may now use the appellation –
“Candidate for Accreditation, Approved by the School Commission of the Western
Association of Schools and Colleges” with respect to grades KN-12.

Reflecting back on how much has been accomplished in our inaugural year, we wish to
express our heartfelt thanks to the entire Mountain Peak family, and as the next school
year comes forth we will press on with determination expecting even better things to
come.
Mountain Peak Charter School supports families through a variety of programs, including
but not limited to: Home School with support provided through learning centers, a KN-8
Bi-Lingual / Bi-Literal Academy (Spanish & English), and a Virtual High School
Academy that will directly benefit from our candidacy status with WASC as units will
now be transferrable and accepted by other institutions accordingly.
Sponsored by the Mountain Empire Unified School District in East San Diego County,
Mountain Peak Charter School operates a number of learning centers and academies
throughout San Diego, Orange, and Riverside counties.
